When did you start your business?

The shop opened in 1989. I started shaping boards in 1981.

Do you consider the location of your shop a key factor to the business’s success?

Yes absolutely. We’re located one block from the beach in Ocean Beach.

Who is your average buyer?

Men from the ages 10-60+.

If a total Barney walks in do you treat him with the same respect as a full on loc?

Yes absolutely. If it’s a local barney we know we at least get to tease him a bit.

What is the dumbest question a customer has ever asked?

“Do you sell surfboards?” (They’re all over the place on racks in the shop).

Do you have a mascot (ex. - An animal that roams freely throughout the building)?

Yes- “Rocky” the surfing dog. An Endless Summer 2 fan.

What is the craziest return a customer has ever tried to make?

An empty beer can from the beach. A total drunkard walked in one day wasted off of his ass and tried to return an empty beer can.

Does your store support any local surfers or have a surf team?

We support all of the local surfers as much as we can. We also have a surf team.

What is your most annoying grom story?

I love groms so much that they actually never annoy me. They’re all so stoked on everything.

Have you ever had any type of celeb roll in and make a purchase?

Skip Frye.

Have you ever pulled a hot chick/guy solely due to the fact that you own/manage a surf shop?

Yes my wife. She’s a hot chick for sure.

How many days a week do you surf now compared to before you owned/managed a surf shop?

I still surf almost as much as I did before I owned a shop.

Who is your favorite surfer and why?

Laird Hamilton. I’ve known Laird for years and he is an all around great guy and the rest speaks for itself.

Has a customer trying on clothes ever walked out completely naked?

I’m gonna have to say “no” with a big frown.

Has a person ever walked in totally blitzkrieged (really intoxicated) and tried to make a purchase? If so elaborate.

No the drunks usually don’t by stuff, but believe me they frequent the shop quite often.

Every store has to deal with shoplifting. What is your most memorable experience and what is your shoplifting policy?

My policy is shoplifters are beaten severely and then sent to jail. Or chased down, beaten severely and sent to jail.

And last but not least tell us one of the craziest shop stories you can remember?

During 4th of July last year we had a parking lot sale. Since you can no longer drink on the beach in O.B. any longer people all over had house parties etc. People were bringing us beers from all over. It was total mayhem , but a blast at the same time.
