More About Liquid Surf
An interview with Liquid Surf
When did you start your business?
May 2007
Do you consider the location of your shop a key factor to the business’s success?
Yes absolutely. We’re located right on the Coastal Highway and nobody else is.
Who is your average buyer?
We get a little bit of everybody. From the local crew to tourists and everybody in between.
If a total Barney walks in do you treat him with the same respect as a full on loc?
Even more respect because he is gonna be the next ripper.
What is the dumbest question a customer has ever asked?
“Do you guys sell dog life jackets?” “Do you guys sell kayak leashes?” “Do you guys sell rollerblades?”
Do you have a mascot (ex. - An animal that roams freely throughout the building)?
During the winter we have “Big Jake” and “Roxy.”
What is the craziest return a customer has ever tried to make?
A guy bought 2 standup paddle boards once and brought them back like 3 hours later because he said he couldn’t ride them well so wanted to return them.
Does your store support any local surfers or have a surf team?
Yes we have a surf team.
What is your most annoying grom story?
Owner’s car vandalized with “waxed on” dicks all over his car.
Have you ever had any type of celeb roll in and make a purchase?
Bam Margera’s family comes in frequently.
Have you ever pulled a hot chick/guy solely due to the fact that you own/manage a surf shop?
Yes we have. Some of us. The ones that aren’t married.
How many days a week do you surf now compared to before you owned/managed a surf shop?
Probably the same for some of us. A lot less for others that work here.
Who is your favorite surfer and why?
Dane Reynolds. He’s really progressive.
Has a customer trying on clothes ever walked out completely naked?
We get a lot of Russians in here so some of the Russian girls tend to kinda do that.
Has a person ever walked in totally blitzkrieged (really intoxicated) and tried to make a purchase? If so elaborate.
Yes. One guy was on acid and bought a skateboard from us once.
Every store has to deal with shoplifting. What is your most memorable experience and what is your shoplifting policy?
Our policy is that they get the sh%& beat out of them in the back room. Most people don’t really get away with stealing here because we have a lot of security in the shop.
And last but not least tell us one of the craziest shop stories you can remember?
We have fashion shows here where we throw a huge party with liquor. The fashion shows are definitely one for the books.
